Sex My Ducks Pt.II

Our Ducks 25 July 09

Our Ducks 25 July 09

Good news – We think at least one of them is a female duck! We’ve found a black feather on the wing of one of the karkhi campbells, this usually means they are female.

On the other hand we think the two white ducks are male ducks because we think we can see curly tail feathers forming (which is actually quite clear on the photo)

Download Speeds

Wow, I know we are still only looking at the tip of the iceberg here and that we still have miles to go before we genuinely have an internet that we can call fast in the UK (let alone in world.)
But isn’t it great that you can download a CD’s worth of data in 10 minutes flat.

Shame it had to be from Virgin though!!

Shame it had to be from Virgin though!!

I remember when it took the same amount of time to download a pathetic little .wav file from an AOL server via  a 56k modem. I used to dread it when they updated the Counter Strike Beta versions because it would take the best part of the night eliminating whatever fragging that would have taken place. Now I could download an entire game and still have an entire night to play it too.

Well this is of course would be at work using the 10-meg line because at home I live in a black spot of internet unworthiness. I get about 30kbs – this I can’t even comprehend as being called broadband but rather more like the analogue method of a bygone era of data transmissions that I thought were long behind me. The problem with my broadband is that I only live within walking distance of the centre of one of the top ten cities in England! Fair enough if I had shite internet connection because I was living in the remotest parts of Bulgaria using a satellite to download through – it would be fully reasonable – but I live in a well populated suburb very close to a major city. Ok, you say, stfu and use another medium, you say. So I say; I wish – Virgin/NTL/Cable and wireless, whatever the name that would have been used at whatever time, have never bothered to roll-out through my area – so here I am stuck with my shitty ADSL and not alot to do about it except do my downloading at work and then bang it onto my external drive. Speaking of which I have a terabyte external drive, wow, I know we’re only looking at the tip of the iceber…………..

Sex My Ducks dot com

I wish we could figure out what sex the ducks are going to be – we dare not ‘vent’ the ducks for fear of damaging their reproductive organs so we are waiting for the curly feather on the ducks tail. If it’s a curl they will be boy ducks and if they don’t have the curly feather then they will be girl ducks. We read on thar tinterwebs that you can also tell by their quack if they are male or female. The Male ducks have a more raspy sound and the females have a more definitive ‘Quack’.

…anyway, I’ll tell you why it’s so important; Male ducks are useless, they aren’t going to supply me with fresh eggs every morning  and we only need one male to fertilise the eggs if we breed them. If it turns out if 5 out of the 6 ducks are males Christmas dinner will be fuelled by roast duck. Anyone fancy helping break their necks come the time? I get the feeling Eric may well come into his own on this occasion.

Battlefield Heroes

https://www.battlefieldheroes.com

F**k online free Quake! Who wants Quake when you can have free Battlefield!?

Battlefield Heroes  runs alot like the classic fps game Battlefield 1942 crossed with TF2′s cartoon animations/graphics. It is genuinely great, totally enjoyable and most importantly free. I usually buy my games (like half life, bf 2142 and TF2) but the problems with these are usually that my friends don’t have a copy to play on multiplayer with me. With free games like bf Heroes all the guys from Spastics or Red can connect for a rather social online kill fest! In fact, I might go suggest this to the frisbee team now…….

Driving in Bulgaria

They are nuts, they overtake at every opportunity. Ok! It is a necessity that people overtake especially as all their main roads are single carriageways but Jesus, they really push the envelope of dangerous driving. They overtake on blind corners, the shittiest Lada you’ve ever seen in your life overtakes the shittiest Trabant you’ve ever seen in your life, cars overtake in full oncoming traffic and cars swerve last minute out of the way of other cars. It’s quite a harrowing experience – whether you’re the vehicle being over taken or in the one the overtaking car is on head-on course for.

New Bed

For first time in my life I get to sleep in a bed where my feet don’t stick out the end! £500 of Swedish memory foam lush. Not that it really matters to me I suppose – I fall sleep within a matter of seconds from when my head hits the pillow. The only problem is that this bed occupies most of the room. Well, at least I can open the door to the room, and that’s all that matters.

Best Ever Gig

I have decided that AC/DC at Wembley is the best single gig I have ever been to.

This was the first time I have been to the New Wembley (this has a lot to do with Leicester City Football Club being crap over the last few seasons) and I was simply taken aback when I walked through the concourse and out onto the stands. It’s far grander than Old Trafford (Old Trafford being on a simaler scale to Wembley and somewhere that I’ve been lucky enough to go to recently) but maybe that’s because it was simply Wembley and I’ll always have fond memorys of going to Wembley, no matter what it’s incarnation. The only problem I found with Wembley Stadium as a music venue was that the accustics were abysmal.

By the time we (Me, Paula, Dan, and Phil) had battled the insane motorway traffic, caught the tube, arrived at the stadium, located warmonkey and the randoms he had inevitably befriended (rather nice bunch of spaniards this time). We arrived after the first support band The Answer had finished so we milled around the middle of the pitch drinking our pints of cold beer on a perfect day. The second band to play were The Subways and these guys sounded atrocious, not heard any of their stuff before and warmonkey will convince you that they are shit anyway but I didn’t get a chance to judge for myself just because of the layout of the stadium being designed to hold the noise of a chanting football fans and not host live music in. You couldn’t hear fuck all in the center of the pitch because of the echo around the ground so we decided that it would be best if we went as close as possible to the front to get the best sound for ‘DC. –> This was a very wise move indeed.

Close runners-up to best ever gig would be Kasabian at De Montfort Hall at the end of May and Insomnium at Rock City a few years back.
